Psalm 127: 1,2 “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labour in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, to retire late, to eat the bread of painful labours; for He gives to His beloved even in his sleep.
Leader, I bless you with an escape from the world’s destructive belief that toil (i.e. to “work severely and with irksomeness”) equals success. I bless you with a changed perspective; an end to believing that God differentiates between ‘secular’ and ‘spiritual’. I bless you with His input, help and favour in your daily work – that which you might see as ‘secular’ and thus of no interest to Him. I bless you with experiencing Him as a big-picture God who also excels in the details. I bless you with the wisdom and courage to move from a place of unhealthy toiling to what He sees as responsible and righteous stewardship. I bless you with receiving from Him what you lack while you are at rest in Him – doing nothing to ‘deserve’ it.
